Poker abbreviations
Common abbreviations used in poker are given their explanations.

- ace, A-A referring to two aces (a.k.a. American Airlines).

- all in pre flop.
- BB
- big blind, or, big bet.
- BB/100
- big bets per hundred hands (concerning win rate).
- BDFD
- backdoor flush.
- BI
- buy-in.
- BE
- break even.
- BK
- bankroll.
- BRM
- bankroll management.
- c
- club (one of the four suits in poker), normally written out after a hand rank, for example, 7c, meaning seven of clubs.
- CO
- cut off (the position before the button).
- d
- diamond (one of the four suits in poker), normally written out after a hand rank, for example, 7d, meaning seven of diamonds.
- EP
- early position.
- EV
- expected value.
- FL
- fixed limit (betting structure, compare with NL below).
- GTO
- game theory optimal.
- h
- heart (one of the four suits in poker), normally written out after a hand rank, for example, 7h, meaning seven of hearts.
- Hi-Lo
- high-low, referring to that the best and worse hand sharing the pot.
- HUD
- heads up display (used in some poker programs).
- ICM
- independent chip model.
- IO
- implied odds.
- IP
- in-position.
- ITM
- in the money (reaching a paid placement in a tournament).
- J
- jack, J-J referring to two jacks.
- LAG
- loose-aggressive (player style).
- LP
- loose-passive (player style).
- K
- king, K-K referring to two kings.
- LP
- late position.
- ME
- main event, for example, WSOP ME.
- MP
- middle position.
- MTT
- multi-table tournament, contrary to single-table tournament.
- MW
- multi-way.
- NFD
- nut flush draw.
- NL
- no limit (betting structure, compare with FL above).
- o
- off suited (cards in different suits), normally written out after a starting hand, for example, KJo.
- OOP
- out of position.
- PFR
- pre flop raise.
- PLO
- Pot Limit Omaha.
- Q
- queen, Q-Q referring to two queens.
- RIO
- reversed implied odds.
- ROI
- return of investment.
- s
- spade (one of the four suits in poker), normally written out after a hand rank, for example, 7s, meaning seven of spades.
- s
- suited (cards in the same suit), normally written out after a starting hand, for example, KJs.
- SB
- small blind.
- SNG
- sit n go (a tournament format).
- T
- ten (sometimes 10 is used instead), T-T referring to two tens.
- TAG
- tight-aggressive (player style).
- TP
- tight-passive (player style).
- TPTK
- top pair top kicker.
- UTG
- under the gun (the first position).
- UTG+1
- the next position after under the gun.
- VPIP
- voluntarily put (money) in pot, the VP$IP abbreviation is also used.
